Publishing FAQ: Your political book at fixit.us
Q. I want to write a book related to US politics. What can fixit.us do for me?
A. In exchange for the non-exclusive rights to publish your book, we will pay industry standard royalties on all sales. Your book will be sold on Amazon.com and other leading internet outlets, and will be available to bookstores everywhere. Just as importantly, you will have the whole fixit.us community from which to draw support. Need a fact checker, a critic or someone to tweet about it? Look to your fellow members. If they like your book, they will help.
Q. Will you publish anything that I write about US politics?
A. No, we will not publish just any book. Your book must meet these two requirements:
- You must be an active member in the fixit.us forum and at least one other member must have contributed in some way, big or small, to the manuscript.
- Your book must meet our high standards for quality.
Q. What are those standards?
A. They are summarized in the acronym APELL. Your book must be:
- Authoritative. Vague information without documentation is unacceptable.
- Passionate. If you don’t care about your topic, no one else will either.
- Entertaining. No one will read a dull book, except sometimes the author’s mother.
- Literate. No one will take your book seriously with bad grammar or confusing sentences.
- Logical. The ideas advanced in your book must be supported by facts.
Q. What if I disagree with your judgment about my book and the above requirements?
A. You can appeal to the membership, as their opinion might carry some weight. However, the editor makes the final call. We are risking our money and our reputation to publish your work, and we must be convinced of its quality.
Q. How can I reduce my risk of being disappointed?
A. Talk to us! Send us an e-mail or a personal message on the bulletin board. We will be glad to talk about your ideas.
Q. What if my book disagrees with your politics?
A. We do have a political viewpoint at fixit.us, which we describe as the independent center. However, we are not married to any particular agenda on this site, except as embodied by the five quotations on our home page. If you can agree with those quotations, then you will probably get along well with us at fixit.us. We want to publish great books about US politics and raise the level of political discussion, whether to the right or left of center.
